Mamata Banerjee Dares Narendra Modi: Ready for Bengal Poll Battle Now

West Bengal's political climate intensified after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a rally in Alipurduar. Accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government of corruption, cruelty, and complete failure on law and order, Modi said that Bengal is plagued by violence, despair among youth, and a collapsing education system. He specifically cited the communal unrest in Murshidabad and Malda following protests against the Waqf Act as a symbol of the TMC's indifference to public suffering.

In a defiant response, Mamata Banerjee dismissed the Prime Minister's remarks as shocking and politically motivated, particularly at a time when India is trying to present a united front globally following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. She accused the BJP of politicizing a sensitive national security operation for electoral gain and stated that senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was part of an all-party delegation to promote unity abroad.

Banerjee turned the narrative by challenging PM Modi to conduct Bengal Assembly elections immediately, asserting that the people of Bengal are firmly with her party. She said, “I challenge them! If they have the courage, go for elections tomorrow. We are ready, and Bengal is ready. The people are with us. Timing is a factor.”

Modi, during his address, highlighted multiple crises faced by the state, including rampant unemployment, deteriorating women’s safety, and eroding public trust in the system. He criticized the TMC’s handling of the teacher recruitment scam, which resulted in over 25,000 teachers losing their jobs. Modi blamed the ruling party for destroying the careers of thousands and putting the future of lakhs of students in jeopardy.

PM Modi said the riots in Murshidabad and Malda were examples of lawlessness under TMC, claiming that police acted like bystanders while party-linked hooligans committed arson. He emphasized that the judiciary had to intervene because the state administration failed. Mamata Banerjee, in contrast, accused the BJP of instigating these riots for political mileage and questioned the government’s inability to apprehend the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam incident.

She reiterated that her government is people-centric and humane, unlike the divisive politics of the BJP. With Bengal’s Assembly polls looming less than a year away, the fierce exchange between the two leaders signals the beginning of a high-stakes political battle that could shape the future of the state.
