IndiGo Flight Aborts Delhi Landing Amid Storm

A major weather event over Delhi on Sunday forced an IndiGo flight from Raipur to abort its landing due to intense turbulence and dangerous wind conditions. IndiGo flight 6E 6313 was moments away from touching down at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when gusty winds, reaching up to 80 kmph, prompted the pilot to climb back to a higher altitude.

A video taken from inside the cabin captured the harrowing moments as passengers cried out during violent shaking of the aircraft. Visibility outside appeared poor, further complicating landing efforts. Eventually, after circling the area for a prolonged period, the flight landed safely at 5:43 pm, nearly 40 minutes behind schedule.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the unexpected weather to multiple interacting systems. A Western Disturbance over north Pakistan, a cyclonic circulation over Haryana, and strong moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea all contributed to the instability. These factors created a fast-moving cloud system that brought high-intensity winds and heavy rainfall across the Delhi region.

Wind speeds at Palam airport peaked at 65 kmph around 4:30 pm, while other parts of the city, including Pragati Maidan, experienced gusts of up to 76 kmph. The sudden storm led to delays and advisories at Delhi airport, affecting flight operations. The IMD has issued another thunderstorm warning for Monday, with predicted winds between 40-50 kmph and lightning, keeping travel and public safety on alert.
