Abhishek Bachchan, son of legendary actors Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, recently reflected on the initial rejections he faced before stepping into Bollywood. In a candid interview, he revealed that despite being the son of a film icon, launching him as an actor wasn’t something directors wanted to risk. He shared that several filmmakers turned him down, expressing that they didn’t want the pressure or responsibility of introducing Amitabh Bachchan’s son to the screen.
Although many assumed that his last name would open doors, Abhishek’s reality was quite the opposite. He explained that directors were intimidated by the towering reputation of his father, fearing audience expectations and scrutiny. “They were like, ‘We don’t want the responsibility of launching Amitabh Bachchan’s son.’ I didn’t get that,” he said. These rejections, while politely delivered, were difficult for the young actor to digest.
Abhishek eventually made his debut with JP Dutta’s Refugee in 2000, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was also launching her career. He recalled being 21 and full of energy, believing he was ready, only to face multiple “thanks, but no thanks” responses. Despite the discouragement, he remained resilient. Over the years, he built his own name with acclaimed roles in films like Yuva and Guru. Now promoting his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata, Abhishek’s journey stands as a testament to perseverance and carving one's own identity beyond legacy.
