FASTag Annual Pass Launching August 15 With 200 Trips Or One Year Validity

India’s electronic toll collection system FASTag, operated by the National Highways Authority of India, is set to introduce a major new feature with the launch of the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025. This initiative is designed to offer greater convenience and cost-effectiveness for private vehicle owners who regularly travel on national highways and expressways. Unlike the regular pay-per-use recharge system, the Annual Pass offers a prepaid plan that provides up to 200 toll crossings or one year of validity from activation, whichever is earlier. The move is aimed at reducing repeated online transactions and ensuring a smoother travel experience for frequent highway users.

The FASTag Annual Pass is targeted at non-commercial vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans. The plan allows users to make a one-time payment of Rs 3,000 for the year or for 200 toll transactions, eliminating the need to top up the FASTag account multiple times. It integrates with an existing FASTag, meaning users do not need to purchase a new tag. Instead, the Annual Pass is linked to the current FASTag, provided it is active, correctly affixed to the vehicle, and linked to the correct registration number. The pass applies to toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on national highways and expressways but excludes state highways and local toll roads not covered by the FASTag network.

Purchasing the FASTag Annual Pass is a fully online process. Interested users can buy it through the Rajmarg Yatra app or the official portals of NHAI and MoRTH. The process involves logging in with a registered mobile number or entering the vehicle registration and FASTag ID, verifying eligibility, making an online payment of Rs 3,000 via UPI, debit or credit card, or net banking, and then linking the pass to the vehicle’s FASTag account. After successful payment, an SMS confirmation is sent to the user. The pass activates on August 15, 2025, regardless of the purchase date, meaning the benefits start only on Independence Day.

To qualify for the Annual Pass, users must meet several conditions. The FASTag must be active and free from blacklist status due to violations or pending dues. It must be properly affixed to the windshield to ensure it can be scanned at toll plazas. The vehicle registration number must be correctly linked to the FASTag account. The scheme is restricted to private non-commercial vehicles, and commercial trucks and buses are not eligible. Accounts flagged for fraudulent activity or non-compliance are excluded from participation. Meeting these criteria ensures smooth integration with the toll system and uninterrupted access to the prepaid benefit.

Once activated on August 15, 2025, the Annual Pass allows up to 200 toll crossings within a one-year period at eligible toll plazas. Each time the vehicle passes through an integrated toll booth, one transaction is deducted from the quota. The system enables cashless toll payments without further recharges until the limit or validity period is reached. After expiry or upon exhausting the trip limit, the FASTag automatically reverts to the standard pay-per-use mode. This design is intended to simplify toll payments, particularly for individuals who frequently commute or travel long distances on national highways.

There are important conditions attached to the use of the Annual Pass. It is non-transferable and valid only for the registered vehicle’s FASTag. Payments made for the pass are non-refundable. The coverage is limited to toll plazas managed by NHAI and MoRTH, excluding those on local roads, state highways, or managed by private operators. The pass does not renew automatically, requiring manual renewal upon expiry. Additionally, users receive SMS alerts for every transaction to help them track usage and remaining balance.

The introduction of the FASTag Annual Pass is expected to be a game changer for regular highway travelers, removing the hassle of frequent recharges and offering predictable toll costs for the year. With a fixed activation date and a clear set of rules, the plan is designed to bring efficiency and ease to India’s growing network of electronic toll collection points. As highway traffic continues to grow, initiatives like this could significantly improve the travel experience for millions of road users.
