PSG Clinch UEFA Super Cup With Dramatic Comeback And Penalty Win Over Tottenham

Paris Saint-Germain began the 2025 season in style by lifting their first-ever UEFA Super Cup, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties after a thrilling late comeback in Udine, Italy. Spurs, playing their first competitive game under new coach Thomas Frank, looked on course for glory after Micky van de Ven struck in the 39th minute and Cristian Romero doubled the lead early in the second half.

However, PSG turned the tide in the dying moments. Substitute Lee Kang-in sparked hope with a precise 85th-minute strike, and Goncalo Ramos headed home the equaliser deep into stoppage time from an Ousmane Dembele assist. The match went to penalties, where early misses from PSG’s Vitinha and Spurs’ Van de Ven and Mathys Tel shaped the contest. Nuno Mendes ultimately converted the decisive spot-kick after Ramos, Dembele, and Lee had all scored for PSG.

Debutant goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, signed from Lille, played a crucial role by saving Van de Ven’s penalty. The victory marked PSG’s fifth trophy of 2025 and delivered Luis Enrique a perfect start to the season, despite minimal pre-season preparation. For Tottenham, it was a bitter debut for Frank, who also handed starts to new signings Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha. PSG will now focus on their Ligue 1 opener against Nantes, while Spurs prepare to host Burnley in the Premier League.
