The city has consistently earned high marks due to its exceptional public schools, family-friendly environment, and overall quality of life. Based on data from the U.S. Census, the Department of Education, and crime statistics from the FBI, San Ramon stood out as a top choice for families seeking safety, education, and community support.

In addition to its ranking as the best place to raise a family in Contra Costa County, San Ramon was also rated as the 7th best suburb to raise a family in California (out of 526 cities), and its public schools earned a commendable ranking of 335th out of nearly 6,800 cities across America. The city’s overall score on Niche’s report card was A+, with notable high marks in areas like public schools, family-friendliness, and health and fitness. However, it did receive lower marks in areas like housing affordability (C+) and cost of living (C-), with a B+ for crime and safety.

San Ramon’s high quality of life was also affirmed by the U.S. Social Progress map in June, where it ranked as the highest in the country for quality of life based on factors like safety, health, education, and access to opportunities. Pleasanton was ranked second in this report, showcasing the area’s appeal for families seeking a balance between urban convenience and suburban tranquility.

As a highly sought-after family destination, San Ramon’s vibrant community, well-rated public schools, and focus on health and fitness make it an ideal place to live for those looking to settle down in the Bay Area. It is also worth noting that nearby cities like Danville and Dublin have received high rankings for livability, with Danville earning an A grade and Dublin ranking as one of the best suburbs in the Bay Area.
