Fake Army Brigadier Caught In Shahjahanpur Sting

A 21-year-old man was detained in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur after he allegedly posed as a senior Indian Army officer and walked into a trap laid by Army authorities. The accused, identified as Aryan Verma, had reportedly been moving around Shahjahanpur and nearby areas in full military uniform while claiming to be a Brigadier.

Army authorities had been tracking him since April after receiving inputs that he was frequently seen wearing ceremonial Army dress and presenting himself as a high-ranking officer. Since officials were unable to locate him earlier, they planned a sting operation to bring him into a secure and controlled setting.

As part of the operation, Army officials contacted Verma while posing as civilians. They invited him to deliver a motivational talk for young candidates preparing for recruitment examinations. The fake event was arranged at the Shaheed Museum inside Shahjahanpur Cantonment.

Fake Army Officer Reaches Cantonment

Verma arrived at the venue on Friday morning dressed as a Brigadier. Officials said he came in a Harrier SUV fitted with military-style stars and flags usually associated with senior officers. Army personnel detained him as soon as he reached the location.

During the operation, officials recovered a fake government identity card from his driver. Investigators also found that Verma was accompanied by two bouncers, whom he allegedly introduced as National Security Guard commandos. He reportedly claimed that he had been given special security cover, helping him project the image of a powerful military officer.

Authorities also seized an identity card that appeared to carry the seal of the dean of the Armed Forces Medical College. Investigators suspect the document is forged. An Army regimental cane and a fake pistol were also recovered from his possession.

Probe Into Fake Documents And Motive

An Army Intelligence team from Bareilly has taken over the investigation and is questioning Verma to find out why he allegedly impersonated a Brigadier. Officials are also trying to determine how he obtained the uniform, forged identity cards, vehicle markings and other items used to support the fake Army officer identity.

Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said Army authorities are currently interrogating the accused. Once the Army completes its inquiry and hands him over to the police, an FIR will be registered and a detailed investigation will follow.

According to documents recovered from him, Verma is 21 years old. Officials said he had been living in Delhi and preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. He had allegedly failed the exam multiple times. His father is reportedly an officer in the horticulture department, while his mother works as a school teacher.

The unusual case has raised serious questions about how a young man allegedly managed to use military-style symbols, fake documents and security personnel to create a false identity. Investigators are now checking whether Verma acted alone or had help from others in arranging the uniform, forged cards, vehicle setup and fake security cover.

The Shahjahanpur fake Army Brigadier case has also highlighted the need for stricter checks on the misuse of military uniforms and symbols. Officials are expected to examine his past movements, contacts and possible public appearances to understand the full extent of the impersonation.
