DMK Walkout As CM Vijay Denies Horse Trading Allegations

DMK protest triggers walkout in Assembly

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly witnessed high political drama on Tuesday after DMK MLAs staged a walkout during Chief Minister Vijay’s address. The disruption came amid heated exchanges over allegations of horse trading and political realignment involving post-poll alliances. According to proceedings, DMK members raised slogans inside the House, leading to repeated interruptions during the Chief Minister’s speech.

The Speaker and ruling TVK members urged the opposition to maintain order, but the DMK continued its protest before walking out of the Assembly. The incident added to growing political tensions between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and the opposition DMK in the state legislature.

CM Vijay rejects horse trading allegations

During the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, Chief Minister Vijay strongly denied allegations of horse trading raised by the opposition. He said that alliance decisions taken by parties such as CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League were independent and not influenced by the ruling party. Vijay accused opposition leaders of engaging in blame-game politics and attempting to mislead the House.

He argued that contradictions in the opposition’s statements showed a lack of consistency, pointing out that they simultaneously claimed external influence while also admitting independent decisions by alliance partners. The Chief Minister maintained that his government respected democratic choices made by political parties after the election.

Law and order and governance focus

Vijay also used his address to highlight governance priorities, particularly law and order, women’s safety and drug control. He stated that maintaining public safety was a core responsibility of the government and that strict action would be taken against crimes targeting women and drug-related offences.

He added that issues like drug abuse had existed for years and accused previous administrations of failing to address them effectively. The Chief Minister also pointed to administrative changes, including the appointment of a Director General of Police, as evidence of improved governance under his administration.

Sharp exchange over corruption and governance claims

The Chief Minister further escalated political tensions by targeting the previous government led by MK Stalin, alleging administrative lapses and corruption-related concerns. He said that democratic criticism was valid but should remain balanced and not turn into misinformation or disruption of legislative proceedings.

Amid repeated interruptions, the Speaker assured the opposition that they would be given an opportunity to respond after the Chief Minister concluded his speech. Despite the walkout, the ruling side continued the session, with Vijay reiterating that his government would pursue corruption cases and ensure accountability in public administration. The incident highlights the continuing political confrontation in Tamil Nadu Assembly, where post-election alliances, governance claims and accusations of corruption are increasingly shaping legislative debates.
