Pattaya teen death case: Australian man arrested in Thailand

The death of a 17-year-old Thai girl in Pattaya has led to the arrest of an Australian man after police said her body was found inside a suitcase. The case has drawn attention in Thailand because of the CCTV trail, the suspect’s alleged attempt to leave the country, and the serious charges now filed against him.

Police identified the teenager as Tunchanok Donhomla. She was reportedly last seen entering a condominium in Bang Lamung district with Australian national Simon Peter Carman. Authorities said Carman has been charged with murder, concealment of a body, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes. The allegations are still under investigation, and the case is expected to move through Thailand’s legal process.

CCTV footage becomes key part of investigation

According to police, CCTV footage showed Tunchanok and Carman walking into the Pattaya condominium at around 3.30 am on Thursday. They were seen passing a security guard before entering an elevator and going to a room on the 15th floor. Concern later grew after the teenager failed to return, leading people close to her to raise an alarm.

Investigators said another CCTV sequence showed Carman leaving the building at around 9.30 pm with a black suitcase, nearly 18 hours after the pair had entered the property. Police said he then placed the suitcase on a motorcycle and rode away, including through an area near a railway line. Officers are examining a short period in which he was reportedly out of camera coverage, as they believe it could be important to the timeline of events.

Police examine Pattaya condo room

When officers searched the condominium room, Carman was not present. Police said they found signs that suggested a possible struggle had taken place inside. After his arrest, investigators also noted scratch marks on his neck and arms. Carman reportedly gave an explanation for the marks, but police are studying whether they may be linked to an altercation.

The suspect was later arrested at Bangkok airport while allegedly trying to travel back to Australia. Police said the airport arrest followed a search operation after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and other evidence connected to the Pattaya condo crime.

Suspect reportedly gives self-defence claim

Police said Carman initially denied killing Tunchanok and claimed she had disappeared from the room while he was asleep. He later allegedly told investigators that he had taken her to the apartment after agreeing to pay for sexual services. According to the investigation details, an argument reportedly followed over payment, after which he claimed the death happened in self-defence.

Authorities have not accepted that claim as final, and the investigation remains active. Police are expected to review forensic evidence, CCTV footage, witness statements, and the suspect’s movements before submitting further findings.

Family mourns Thai teenager

Tunchanok was from Kalasin province, about 480 km from Pattaya. Her family said she was an only child and had been living with her father and stepmother after her mother’s death. She had reportedly left home for a vacation with a friend before travelling to Pattaya on June 16.

The case has left her family seeking answers as police continue to investigate how the teenager died and whether others had any role in the events before or after her death. For now, the Pattaya teen death case remains under close police scrutiny, with the Australian suspect facing serious criminal charges in Thailand.
