Vijay Vows No Political Interference In Crime Crackdown

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed district collectors, police chiefs and senior officials to take fearless and impartial action against criminals, saying there will be no political interference in law-and-order matters.

Addressing the first joint conference of district collectors, superintendents of police and senior officials after the TVK government assumed office in May, Vijay said officials should act freely and ensure that even powerful offenders are punished under the law. He also cautioned that innocent people should not be targeted.

Vijay Gives Free Hand To Officials

Speaking at the conference in Chennai on Monday, June 29, 2026, Vijay said officials must not hesitate while dealing with criminals. He said those responsible for wrongdoing should be punished immediately and impartially, regardless of their influence or status.

The Chief Minister’s message was aimed at strengthening administrative confidence and police action across districts. By promising no political interference, Vijay sought to signal that his government wants law enforcement to function independently while remaining accountable to the law.

Focus On Drugs, Sand Mining And Organised Crime

Vijay asked district collectors and police officials to go beyond routine responses and identify the root causes of crime. He directed authorities to act firmly against drug trafficking, illegal sand mining, mineral smuggling and organised criminal networks.

He also told officials to increase surveillance around schools and conduct periodic inspections to prevent drug-related offences. The Chief Minister said those involved in drug crimes should be arrested immediately and dealt with according to law.

Women And Children’s Safety Prioritised

Vijay said women’s safety should not be compromised under any circumstances. He asked officials to give special attention to the protection of women, students and children, especially in vulnerable areas.

The Chief Minister’s directions come at a time when public safety, drug abuse and organised crime have become major governance concerns in several states. His remarks indicate that the TVK government wants district-level officials to take a more proactive role in preventing crimes before they escalate.

Land Dispute Committees Planned

Vijay also announced plans to form district-level land dispute resolution committees. The move is aimed at addressing land-related conflicts, which often lead to violence in rural parts of Tamil Nadu.

Calling for transparent and corruption-free governance, Vijay said the government was elected to deliver social justice and improve access to essential services such as drinking water, healthcare, education, electricity and public transport.

The Chief Minister’s strong message to officials is expected to become a key talking point in Tamil Nadu politics. By asking officers to punish even the powerful and promising freedom from political pressure, Vijay has placed law and order at the centre of his government’s administrative agenda.
