Tirupati temple donations reached a record Rs 96.98 crore in 24 hours as 2,460 devotees contributed before TTD’s revised donor policy took effect. The rush was driven by the end of lifetime privileges, shorter benefit periods and new digital darshan rules.
Record Donations Before New Policy Deadline
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams collected a record Rs 96.98 crore in donations within 24 hours on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, as devotees rushed to contribute before a revised donor privilege policy took effect. The extraordinary collection came from 2,460 donors, reflecting a last-minute effort to retain benefits available under the previous system.
According to reported figures, 1,212 devotees donated between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, while 1,246 contributed between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 25 lakh. Two donors gave more than Rs 1 crore each. Existing donors who completed their contributions before the deadline will continue to receive privileges already granted to them, including lifetime benefits where applicable.
Why Tirupati Donors Rushed to Contribute
The rush was driven by a major change in the duration and structure of donor benefits. Under the earlier policy, eligible donors could receive lifetime access to privileges such as special entry darshan, break darshan, selected sevas, accommodation and commemorative gifts.
Under the revised framework, benefits for new individual donors will remain valid for 20 years, while institutions and trusts will receive them for 15 years. Since the changes are not retrospective, people who donated before the deadline remain covered by the older rules. This created a strong incentive for devotees and organisations to complete their donations before the new policy began.
New Darshan, Seva and Online Rules
The TTD has replaced its earlier range-based approach with four donor categories based on the amount contributed. Separate rules will apply to individuals and organisations. Darshan requests will now be processed through an online Donor Management System, reducing manual intervention and special requests.
Seva privileges have also been revised. Donors who earlier received recurring annual access to certain rituals may now receive a one-time entitlement. The changes affect benefits linked to Suprabhata Seva, Kalyanotsavam and other temple services. TTD officials said the digital system is intended to improve transparency, consistency and accountability.
Gold, Silver Gifts and Existing Donor Benefits
The policy also reduces some commemorative gifts. Under the previous rules, a Rs 1 crore donor could receive a 5-gram gold coin and a 50-gram silver coin. Under the new structure, eligible donors contributing between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore may receive a 2-gram gold coin and a 10-gram silver coin.
TTD said the revised policy was necessary because the registered donor base has grown rapidly, placing pressure on darshan access and administrative systems. The board aims to balance donor recognition with better opportunities for ordinary pilgrims. Existing donors will not lose benefits already approved, while all future contributions will be governed by the new time limits, digital procedures and revised entitlement rules.
