He reportedly lured the child before committing the crime. Police acted swiftly after receiving information and arrested the accused within an hour. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the accused had a criminal background, with two similar cases registered against him, including a case under the POCSO Act in 2015. The shocking incident led to widespread outrage among locals. On May 2, 2026 (Saturday), hundreds of people staged protests and blocked the Pune–Bengaluru highway, causing heavy traffic congestion. The protests continued on May 3, 2026 (Sunday), with demonstrators demanding capital punishment for the accused. Shiv Sena women workers also joined the protests, with leader Sarika Pawar stating that the crime was beyond tolerance and that justice must be delivered quickly on a fast-track basis.
