According to sources within Delhi Police, night vigil has been intensified, and additional paramilitary and police forces have been deployed across the city. Security has been stepped up particularly in malls, metro stations, markets, hotels, airports, residential colonies, and border entry points. Every vehicle entering Delhi is being checked as part of a widespread screening effort.
Multiple coordination meetings were held across various districts in the capital. District Magistrates reviewed the city’s health and disaster management preparedness, while police officers across the 15 districts of Delhi held briefings to ensure rapid response mechanisms were in place. An official from East Delhi district confirmed they were identifying gaps in quick-response infrastructure and communication systems. In New Delhi district, authorities reassessed the strength and deployment of health services and relief operations to ensure readiness for any unforeseen emergencies.
The Delhi Police Commissioner’s office has tasked special commissioners of all zones with continuous monitoring and command, working closely with Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Additional Commissioners of Police (ACPs) and Station House Officers (SHOs). DCPs across all districts are personally overseeing law and order, keeping ground staff and security forces on full alert.
The Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station saw a detailed inspection as part of anti-terror operations. According to DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania, security at the station includes 41 CCTV cameras and a dedicated team of CISF personnel, with 7 male and 2 female guards deployed per shift. The inspection was followed by a focused coordination meeting to align response strategies across agencies.
Elsewhere, Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) conducted anti-sabotage checks in high-footfall areas such as malls, hotels, and marketplaces. These operations are part of an overarching strategy to enhance surveillance and neutralise any hidden threats. According to DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary, these checks are instrumental in bolstering public confidence and preemptively safeguarding crowded zones.
The high alert status in Delhi follows a failed attempt by the Pakistani military to target 16 cities across India including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. India successfully thwarted these attacks, and in a strategic counter, destroyed a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore. These developments come in the wake of Operation Sindoor, India’s preemptive military operation launched after the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 civilian lives. As part of that mission, Indian forces carried out 24 missile strikes within 25 minutes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and PoK, killing over 70 terrorists and injuring 60 more, according to intelligence reports.
The government’s swift actions both militarily and on the civil front reflect the urgency and gravity with which the situation is being handled. Delhi, being the national capital and a high-profile target, remains under constant surveillance. Authorities urge residents to remain calm but vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and adhere to official advisories.
