India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, announced a significant expansion of Indian consular services across the United States with the opening of eight new Indian Consular Application Centres. This move, which began implementation on August 1, 2025, is aimed at improving accessibility and service delivery for the Indian diaspora residing in the country. The new centres have been opened in Boston, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Addison, Orlando, Raleigh, and San Jose, marking an important step in strengthening ties with the Indian community in the US.
In his statement, Ambassador Kwatra emphasized that these new centres will enhance the reach and efficiency of consular services. He also revealed that an additional Indian Consular Application Centre will soon be launched in Los Angeles, further expanding the network. The Ambassador highlighted that this expansion will not only increase the presence of Indian consular services across the US but also significantly improve the speed and ease with which these services are delivered to the community.
Starting August 1, all Indian Consular Application Centres in the US will also remain open on Saturdays. This step has been taken to cater to the needs of the Indian diaspora, many of whom face challenges accessing services during regular weekday hours. The Ambassador noted that extended operational hours will help in enhancing the availability and convenience of consular services, allowing more people to complete essential formalities without unnecessary delays.
The Indian Embassy also announced that several miscellaneous consular services have been streamlined and will now be offered through these new application centres. However, certain critical services will continue to be handled exclusively at the embassy premises to maintain security and procedural standards. The decision reflects a balance between decentralizing services for easier access while retaining control over sensitive consular tasks.
Ambassador Kwatra underlined that people-to-people connections remain central to the partnership between India and the United States. He added that the opening of new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, as previously announced by the Prime Minister of India, will strengthen bilateral relations even further.
