This decision comes after the BCCI mandated that players participate in domestic events when no international matches are scheduled, following India’s disappointing loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The move aims to strengthen the domestic circuit and ensure that top cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who hadn’t participated in domestic tournaments for years, return to domestic competitions such as the Ranji Trophy.

Gavaskar highlighted that it would have been easy for Gill to rest after a grueling tour, but instead, he is choosing to stay active and provide leadership in the Duleep Trophy.
