WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is expected to travel to Texas on Friday, timing his visit with the final day of early voting and just days before the state’s closely watched Republican primary. The trip, confirmed by a White House official, will take place in Corpus Christi, although specific details about the event have not yet been publicly released.
State Representative Stan Gerdes said the announcement prompted him to move a previously scheduled campaign appearance with Texas Governor Greg Abbott to earlier in the day. The president’s visit is drawing heightened attention given the competitive political environment in the state and the ongoing focus on Republican primary contests.
Trump’s upcoming stop marks his first visit to Texas since traveling to Kerr County last year following deadly flooding in the region. His most recent appearance in Nueces County was a 2022 rally held in Robstown. Political observers say the latest visit could energize Republican voters during the crucial early voting period.
The trip comes as Texas Republicans face a heated U.S. Senate primary featuring incumbent Senator John Cornyn, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Houston-area U.S. Representative Wesley Hunt. Despite issuing several endorsements in other Texas races through Truth Social in recent days, Trump has not backed any candidate in the Senate contest.
When asked about the race last week, the president signaled neutrality, noting that all three contenders have supported him. He stated that while observers often expect a single endorsement, he currently supports each of the candidates and will monitor how the race develops.
With early voting nearing its end and primary day approaching, Trump’s presence in Texas is expected to further intensify attention on the state’s evolving political landscape.
