Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia Discharged in Delhi Excise Policy Case

In a significant legal development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have been discharged from the Delhi excise policy case. A Delhi court ruled that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to provide substantial evidence to support the serious charges against the two leaders.

The court highlighted the lack of material evidence to substantiate the allegations against Kejriwal. It emphasized that serious charges, such as those involving a central conspiratorial role, need to be backed by solid evidence. Without such proof, the prosecution's claims could not stand, and public confidence in the office of the Chief Minister would be undermined if unsupported allegations were to be accepted.

The court discharged Manish Sisodia, noting that the prosecution's case did not survive judicial scrutiny. It found no material indicating any criminal intent on his part. The court further pointed out that the documents and statements related to the formulation of the excise policy reflected administrative deliberations rather than evidence of wrongdoing.

The court's ruling also stated that the prosecution's theory of an overarching conspiracy failed to hold up under examination, citing internal contradictions in the narrative. The court observed that the policy formulation process involved consultations at multiple levels and institutional deliberations, further weakening the prosecution’s claims. With the court discharging both Kejriwal and Sisodia, this legal setback highlights the challenges in proving complex political and administrative corruption cases, especially when key allegations lack tangible evidence.
