The West Dublin / Pleasanton BART Station is undergoing upgrades with the installation of Next Generation Fare Gates, as part of a systemwide modernization effort aimed at improving accessibility and reducing fare evasion. The multi-stage construction began in late July and will continue over the coming weeks. While train service will not be affected, riders should anticipate brief delays when entering or exiting the station, especially during rush hour.
The newly installed fare gates feature automatic opening doors and are designed with improved accessibility in mind. They accommodate wheelchairs, bicycles, and strollers more easily than the older models, making commuting smoother for a broader range of passengers. According to BART, this is part of a larger project that will see upgraded fare gates in all 50 BART stations by the end of 2025. As of now, 41 stations have already completed their installations.
At the West Dublin / Pleasanton station, the gate replacement will occur in phases. The first two fare gates are expected to take about two weeks to install. During this time, signage and BART staff will guide passengers toward operational gates, including an accessible option for those with mobility needs. While no train schedules will change, commuters may experience short wait times to pass through the station, particularly during morning and evening peaks.
This modernization effort is part of BART’s commitment to improving rider experience and system integrity. By minimizing fare evasion and enhancing ease of movement, BART aims to support a safer and more efficient transit network for the Bay Area. Riders are encouraged to plan a few extra minutes into their commute and stay alert to updates posted at the station or on the official BART website.
