India's wicketkeeper and vice-captain, Rishabh Pant, is set to miss the remainder of the ongoing Test series against England after confirming a foot fracture during the opening day of the Old Trafford Test. Pant suffered the injury while attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. The fracture, identified in the metatarsal bone of his right foot, has ruled him out of keeping wicket for the rest of the match and the upcoming final Test at The Oval. While Pant's availability to bat will be determined by the India team management in consultation with BCCI medical staff, it is unlikely he will take part in the remainder of the series.
Pant's injury comes after a recent blow to his left index finger during the previous Test, marking the second injury in as many matches. The Indian team is currently looking for a replacement, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in as wicketkeeper in Pant's absence during the last Test. The BCCI is expected to announce a replacement for Pant ahead of the fifth Test, with Ishan Kishan likely to be called up, as he was the second wicketkeeper during India A's unofficial Tests in England.
