World’s Second Richest Larry Ellison To Donate 95% Of $373 Billion Fortune

Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle and the world’s second-richest man after Elon Musk, has pledged to donate 95% of his estimated $373 billion fortune. His vast wealth comes primarily from his 41% stake in Oracle and significant investments in Tesla, both of which surged in value due to the AI boom. Ellison first made this pledge in 2010 through the Giving Pledge, a global philanthropic commitment by billionaires to give away most of their fortunes.

Much of his philanthropy is being directed through the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT), a for-profit organization linked with the University of Oxford. EIT focuses on tackling global challenges, including healthcare, climate change, food insecurity, and advanced AI research. His long-term vision combines cutting-edge innovation with global impact.

Ellison has already made notable donations, including $200 million to the University of Southern California for a cancer research center and nearly $1 billion to the Ellison Medical Foundation, which studied ageing and disease prevention. While his direct giving may not match some other billionaires, his structured philanthropic approach through EIT ensures billions will eventually fund critical global causes.

In recent years, however, the Ellison Institute has faced some hurdles. In 2024, scientist John Bell briefly joined to lead research before resigning, citing the project’s challenges. Despite setbacks, Ellison’s commitment to philanthropy remains firm, with plans to channel nearly all of his wealth into transformative projects across the globe.
