Comedian Ken Flores, Co-Creator of LatinXL, Passes Away at 28
Rising comedy star Kenyi "Ken" Flores has tragically passed away at the age of 28. The beloved stand-up comedian and co-creator of LatinXL was found at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, reports suggest he suffered cardiac arrest, with no foul play suspected.
A Heartfelt Goodbye
Flores' family confirmed the devastating news in a statement shared on his Instagram page:
"It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our friend, brother, and son, Kenyi Flores. Please respect our privacy at this time as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss."
His passing occurred amid his 2025 Butterfly Effect Tour, which began in Portland, Oregon, on January 10. His final performance took place on January 25 in Norcross, Georgia, and he was set to take the stage in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 30. Just last December, he filmed his first-ever comedy special, which has yet to be released.
A Trailblazer in Comedy
Born in Chicago, Flores discovered his passion for performing as a teenager, creating YouTube videos at just 15 years old. After moving to California, he pursued stand-up comedy in his early 20s, quickly gaining recognition for his bold humor, magnetic stage presence, and raw storytelling.
Flores was also a fierce advocate for Latino representation in comedy. Alongside René Humberto Valdiviezo, he co-founded LatinXL, a show dedicated to breaking barriers for Latino comedians.
"LATINXL came from an idea over late-night pre-pandemic convos and backyard COVID shows—to create opportunities that would otherwise be hard to land," the show's team shared. "Ken was the heart of LatinXL. The ‘XL’ was a nod to his ‘XTRA large personality’—a force that captivated crowds across the country."
A Community in Mourning
The comedy world has been deeply shaken by Flores’ passing. The Hollywood Improv, where he was a frequent performer, honored his memory with a heartfelt tribute:
"You were greatness, and it was only a matter of time before the whole world saw it. You were also kind and a tremendous friend to all lucky enough to know you. We love you, Ken—thank you for all the laughs."
Comedians René Vaca, Chris D'Elia, and Sam Tripoli have also shared messages of remembrance, reflecting on Flores’ impact, generosity, and unmatched comedic talent.
A Lasting Legacy
Kenyi Flores’ legacy extends far beyond the stage. His influence on Latino representation in comedy, his fearless humor, and his infectious personality will continue to inspire generations of comedians to come.
Though gone far too soon, Ken Flores leaves behind a legacy of laughter—one that will echo in comedy clubs and hearts for years to come.
