Miss England Quits Miss World, Org Denies Harassment

Controversy has erupted around the Miss World 2025 pageant after Miss England, Milla Magee, announced her abrupt withdrawal from the competition held in Telangana, India. Her departure sparked widespread speculation and intense media scrutiny, especially in the British press, over alleged misconduct and ethical concerns during the international beauty event.

Milla Magee, who held the title of Miss England 2024, told British media outlet The Sun that she felt uncomfortable with certain aspects of the event. She cited a major ethical red flag when contestants were allegedly asked to socialize with middle-aged male sponsors as a sign of appreciation for their financial support of the event. Magee said the experience did not align with her core values and ultimately led to her decision to leave the competition.

However, the Miss World Organisation has strongly refuted the allegations. Chairperson Julia Morley issued a detailed statement clarifying the circumstances behind Magee’s exit. According to the official account, Magee’s departure was initially prompted by a personal family emergency involving her mother’s health. The organisation claims it promptly assisted her return to the UK and showed full support and compassion during the situation.

To further counter the allegations, the Miss World Organisation released unedited video footage recorded during Magee’s stay in India. These clips show Magee expressing her happiness and gratitude for the event, directly contradicting her reported claims of discomfort. The organisation stated, “Certain UK media outlets have published misleading and defamatory statements that do not align with Milla’s actual experience during her time with us.”

In a bid to ensure continuity in the competition, Charlotte Grant, the first runner-up of Miss England, has stepped in to represent the country in the ongoing Miss World 2025 contest. The organisation welcomed her warmly and reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, transparency, and the values that underpin the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ initiative.

The situation took a political turn as well. Telangana’s minister KT Rama Rao responded publicly to the controversy. In a statement posted on X, he condemned any form of mistreatment Magee might have faced and called for a thorough investigation into the allegations. He emphasized that such incidents do not reflect the true culture of Telangana, known for its respect toward women.

Despite the Miss World Organisation’s attempt to clear the air, the incident has raised broader questions about the experiences of international contestants and the treatment of women in high-profile global events. As media debates continue, the organisation urged outlets to exercise journalistic responsibility and refrain from spreading misinformation without verified sources.

The Miss World pageant, a global event with a decades-long history, now faces the challenge of managing reputational damage while ensuring that the core values of dignity, empowerment, and cultural respect remain intact. Whether the controversy fades or leads to lasting reforms within the pageant circuit remains to be seen.
