After weeks of frustration caused by repeated blackouts, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) will host a community information session in Pleasanton. The event comes in response to mounting concerns from residents across Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin, many of whom have faced multiple outages in recent months.
Over the hot summer, outages were especially frequent in west Pleasanton near Foothill Road. Several households reported losing power as often as three times a week, disrupting work, schooling, and daily routines. One resident told Pleasanton Weekly that their home had experienced eight outages in just six weeks, including one that lasted for more than 12 hours. On September 10, a massive blackout left 7,286 PG&E customers without power across Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin, highlighting the scale of the issue.
In an effort to provide answers and reassure customers, PG&E has scheduled a public meeting on Monday, October 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pleasanton Senior Center, located at 5353 Sunol Boulevard. Unlike a traditional town hall, the event will feature multiple small-group stations, allowing residents to meet directly with subject matter experts. Attendees will be able to ask one-on-one questions, learn about ongoing infrastructure improvements, and hear about PG&E’s plans to improve reliability.
The utility company has faced rising criticism for service disruptions, especially during periods of extreme heat when power is most critical. Residents say the frequent outages not only cause inconvenience but also threaten safety, with food spoilage, lack of air conditioning, and concerns for elderly and medically vulnerable people.
PG&E has not released details on the exact causes of the recent blackouts but has acknowledged that outdated infrastructure and high summer demand contributed to the problem. By hosting this session, the company aims to rebuild trust and ensure that customers feel informed about the steps being taken to reduce outages. With frustrations running high, many Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin residents are expected to attend in hopes of receiving clear answers and meaningful solutions.
