A fatal road accident in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh, India, around 8:00 PM IST on Wednesday, April 22, 2026evening resulted in the deaths of 11 people after a truck collided with multiple vehicles and triggered a fire, authorities confirmed. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and traffic enforcement in the region.
According to police officials, the crash occurred when a speeding truck rammed into a Swift car. The force of the impact pushed the smaller vehicle into a Bolero utility vehicle that was carrying a significant load of gravel. Moments after the collision, a fire broke out in the Bolero, rapidly engulfing the vehicle and trapping passengers inside.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the intensity of the fire made rescue efforts difficult. All 11 victims were inside the affected vehicle and were unable to escape in time. Officials described the incident as one of the more severe traffic accidents reported in the area in recent months.
Aparna Rajat Kaushik, a senior police officer overseeing the case, confirmed the death toll while speaking to reporters. She stated that authorities are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the crash and whether mechanical failure, driver error, or other factors contributed to the truck losing control.
The truck driver survived the crash but sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment. Investigators are expected to question the driver once his condition stabilizes as part of the ongoing probe.
Police have launched a formal investigation to establish the exact cause of the collision. Officials indicated that further details will be released as forensic analysis and witness accounts are reviewed.
