A Fort Worth water main break damaged Camp Bowie Boulevard near Horne Street, forcing water shutoffs and traffic restrictions. Crews repaired the 6-inch cast-iron pipe, but permanent road work depended on utility coordination and weather conditions.
Fort Worth Water Main Break Buckles Camp Bowie Boulevard
A Fort Worth water main break lifted and buckled sections of Camp Bowie Boulevard near Horne Street, leading to water shutoffs, road barricades and traffic restrictions while city crews repaired the damaged pipe.
Camp Bowie Boulevard damaged near Horne Street
The break involving a 6-inch cast-iron water main was reported at about 12:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Police blocked parts of the intersection after escaping water damaged the roadway and caused sections of concrete to rise.
The Fort Worth Water Department isolated the line and initially estimated that repairing the pipe would take six to eight hours. Motorists were advised to avoid the intersection and use alternate routes while lanes remained blocked.
Temporary repair completed Sunday morning
Crews repaired the water main and installed a temporary street patch by about 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Permanent repairs were expected to take longer because the city needed to coordinate with other utility providers and assess damage beneath the roadway before paving could begin. Rain forecast for the morning of Monday, July 13, 2026, could also affect the repair schedule.
Aging cast-iron pipe considered likely cause
City spokesperson Mary Gugliuzza said aging infrastructure was the likely cause of the break, although officials had not determined the exact age of the failed pipe.
Fort Worth has more than 700 miles of cast-iron water mains ranging from approximately 6 inches to 36 inches in diameter. About 200 miles of cast-iron pipe are in the design or construction stages for replacement, with the pace of the work depending on engineering requirements, construction schedules and available funding.
City officials said cast-iron mains account for approximately 85% to 90% of Fort Worth’s annual water main breaks. The total amount of water lost from the Camp Bowie Boulevard break had not been calculated because the response and restoration work remained underway.
Drivers were expected to face restrictions near Camp Bowie Boulevard and Horne Street until the damaged roadway could be permanently restored and reopened.
