Aamir Khan has officially dismissed rumors that he plans to retire from acting after his much-anticipated dream project, Mahabharat. The speculation began after a podcast interview where Khan discussed the emotional weight and scale of the epic, prompting many to believe it would be his final cinematic appearance. However, in a recent interaction during the Fan Club segment on Zoom, the actor set the record straight.
Khan explained that his comments were taken out of context. He was asked what kind of film could leave him so fulfilled that he’d never feel the urge to work again. In response, he mentioned Mahabharat, but clarified it was a hypothetical scenario. “Mahabharat is not going to be my last film. The word ‘if’ was crucial in my answer,” he said. “I was talking about the kind of emotional impact the story has on me. Unfortunately, it was misunderstood as an announcement of retirement.”
Aamir Khan also reiterated his commitment to cinema, stating he’s far from stepping back from acting. He is currently awaiting the release of his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, which hits theatres on June 20. The film, directed by RS Prasanna, is the official Hindi remake of the Spanish film Campeones and is expected to be a heartwarming sports drama.
In an earlier conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, Khan had elaborated on why Mahabharat holds such a special place in his heart. “It’s layered, emotional, vast in scale. Everything that exists in the world is in Mahabharat,” he said. Despite its magnitude, Khan affirmed that he views the project as a creative milestone not an endpoint.
With the release of Sitaare Zameen Par and Mahabharat in the pipeline, the actor shows no signs of retiring anytime soon. Fans can expect to see more of Khan’s evolving journey in Indian cinema, both as an actor and a storyteller.
