Air India Chief Chandrasekaran Urges Resilience After AI 171 Crash

In a heartfelt address to Air India employees following the tragic crash of flight AI 171, Chairman N Chandrasekaran acknowledged the immense pain experienced by the airline family and expressed solidarity with the victims' families. Speaking to teams gathered at Air India Headquarters, Training Academy, and the Gurugram office on June 16, Chandrasekaran described the incident as the “most heartbreaking crisis” of his career. He emphasized the importance of standing together and supporting those affected during this difficult time.

Chandrasekaran urged employees to find strength through resilience and determination, reminding them that “any company is what its people do.” He reassured staff that while nothing can undo the loss, the airline will do everything possible to provide support and ensure the victims’ families remain part of the Air India family. The Chairman highlighted that every careful and humble action taken by employees contributes to building a safer, stronger future for Air India.

Chandrasekaran also addressed the complexity of aviation systems and stressed the need to wait for a complete investigation before drawing conclusions. The crash of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which took place shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on June 12, remains under thorough scrutiny. Boeing and the AAIB investigation team have arrived in Ahmedabad to inspect the crash site and assist with the inquiry.

Closing his address, Chandrasekaran called for unity and purpose, encouraging the airline staff to focus on the long-term goal of restoring Air India’s reputation as a trusted and proud national carrier. “Our job is to take Air India where it truly belongs—a place of trust, excellence, and national pride,” he said, inspiring the workforce to face the challenges ahead with courage and commitment.
