A woman lawyer has alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside a moving car in Pune after an evening outing near Koregaon Park. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday night when she had travelled to Pune for work. Police have taken action in the case and detained three men, while efforts are underway to trace another accused.

Victim’s Background

According to police, the woman is originally from Patna. She pursued her legal education in Pune and later began practicing at the Mumbai High Court. She had come to Pune for professional work and was staying in the city when the alleged incident occurred.

How The Evening Began

The woman was reportedly at a five-star hotel in Koregaon Park on Sunday evening. She had invited a man whom she had connected with through a matrimonial website. Police said the man came to the hotel along with two women. After a brief interaction, the three allegedly left the venue.

Meeting With Other Men At The Hotel

Later in the evening, while the woman was consuming alcohol at the hotel, she reportedly became acquainted with two men sitting at a nearby table. After some time, the group allegedly decided to continue the evening at another pub.

Alleged Assault In Moving Car

During the drive to another location, one of the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the woman inside the moving vehicle. Police also said that during the journey, the accused allegedly made calls to two of their friends on speakerphone and passed objectionable comments about the woman.

Obscene Remarks And Argument

Investigators said others in the vehicle allegedly passed obscene remarks as well. Upset by the incident, the woman allegedly forced the accused to call the two men who had been contacted on speakerphone and made them apologise to her. After the vehicle stopped and the group got down, an argument reportedly broke out between the woman and the accused.

Accused Flee The Spot

Police said the accused allegedly threw the woman’s purse onto the road before fleeing from the scene. After the incident, the woman sought help from a local resident and contacted a friend.

Complaint Filed At Koregaon Park Police Station

The woman later approached the Koregaon Park police station and filed a formal complaint. Based on her complaint, police began an investigation and detained three men in connection with the case.

Accused Identified

The detained accused have been identified as Abhishek Navnath Mukte, Dhananjay Sorte and Aadesh Shinde. Police are also trying to locate a fourth accused allegedly linked to the case.

Police Investigation

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the case is being investigated seriously. Police teams have been sent to trace the fourth accused. Officials are expected to examine statements, call records, CCTV footage and other evidence linked to the hotel, vehicle movement and the events that took place that night.

Larger Safety Concern

The case has again raised concerns about women’s safety, late-night travel, social interactions with unknown people and risks linked to online matrimonial connections. While matrimonial websites are commonly used for genuine marriage-related introductions, this case shows the need for extra caution when meeting unknown contacts in person.
