As the Coldplay kiss cam scandal continues to dominate headlines, attention has now turned to Megan Kerrigan, wife of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, and the potential financial windfall she could receive if the couple proceeds with divorce. Hours after the now-viral video showed Byron embracing Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot at a Boston concert, Kerrigan dropped her husband’s name from her social media accounts fueling widespread speculation about an impending split.
Legal experts suggest that if Kerrigan decides to file for divorce, she could be entitled to a significant share of Byron’s wealth, which is estimated between $20 million and $70 million. According to prominent family attorney Nancy Chemtob, Massachusetts law mandates a 50/50 division of assets for couples married over seven years. “It’s obviously a long-term relationship,” said Chemtob, adding that the children will suffer the most emotional fallout from the scandal. “The worst thing in this case is the embarrassment factor for the kids,” she noted. “There will be therapy expenses, separate households, and emotional damage.”
The divorce, if pursued, could get even more complicated depending on whether a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement is in place. Some agreements include “infidelity clauses,” which may financially penalize the partner found guilty of cheating. In this case, Byron’s kiss cam behavior captured publicly on the Gillette Stadium jumbotron as Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked about their obvious discomfort could play a critical role.
“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Martin remarked to the crowd, before nervously adding, “Holy sh-t. I hope we didn’t do something bad.” Those words now feel prophetic. Byron’s panic and Cabot’s face-hiding reaction were widely viewed as confirmation of impropriety. As footage spread across the internet, Astronomer’s board acted quickly by placing both executives on leave. Byron officially resigned days later.
Kristin Cabot, meanwhile, may not face the same level of financial disruption. She and her husband, Andrew Cabot CEO of Privateer Rum are believed to have been married for a shorter period, which could result in a very different legal outcome should they split. Their relationship timeline remains unclear, but legal experts note that prenuptial terms would determine any settlements in their case.
While neither Byron nor Kerrigan has publicly confirmed divorce proceedings, the kiss cam video has ignited a wave of speculation, media coverage, and legal analysis. For now, the public remains fixated not only on the scandal’s romantic drama but also on the massive financial implications that may follow particularly for Megan Kerrigan, who could walk away with tens of millions if the marriage officially ends.
