Explosions rock Kabul amid rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan
Multiple explosions were reported across parts of Kabul late Monday night, heightening concerns over escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Residents in several neighborhoods, particularly in the western parts of the Afghan capital, said powerful blasts were followed by the sound of aircraft flying at low altitude over the city. Witnesses described a tense atmosphere as security forces and emergency responders rushed to the affected areas to assess the situation.

Sources indicated that at least two explosions occurred in Kabul’s 5th district, prompting authorities to deploy police and emergency teams to investigate possible damage and casualties. Officials began evaluating the scale of the incident while maintaining heightened security across the capital. Residents reported increased aircraft movement shortly after the blasts, adding to uncertainty about the nature of the explosions.

The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan accused Pakistan of violating Afghan airspace and conducting airstrikes within the country. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the Pakistani military had targeted a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul, claiming the attack resulted in casualties among individuals undergoing treatment at the facility. He strongly condemned the incident, stating that such actions represented a violation of humanitarian principles and international norms.

Reports also suggested that areas near the Afghan Ministry of Defence headquarters may have been affected by the blasts, though authorities have not confirmed the precise targets. Initial information indicated that the explosions occurred close to security installations, raising concerns about possible strategic strikes.

Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have intensified in recent weeks following repeated cross border clashes and military actions along their shared frontier. Pakistan has previously carried out strikes inside Afghan territory, claiming to target militant groups responsible for attacks within Pakistan. Afghan authorities, however, have consistently rejected these allegations and warned that such operations threaten regional stability.

Earlier reports indicated that Pakistan fired more than 270 rockets and artillery shells across border areas within a 48-hour period. Afghan forces later responded with retaliatory strikes against several Pakistani security checkpoints, further escalating the conflict. The cycle of attacks has included drone strikes and artillery exchanges, deepening the dispute between the two countries.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of allowing militant organizations, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, to operate from Afghan soil and launch attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul has denied providing shelter to such groups and has called for dialogue rather than military action. With explosions now shaking Kabul and aircraft activity continuing over the city, the security situation remains tense as both sides exchange accusations and warnings of further retaliation.
