Crash near Ohio State campus
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State University neuroscience student Sarosh Sheth, 21, was killed after a Ford Mustang struck two pedestrians near the university’s main campus on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The crash occurred at about 2:40 p.m. near North High Street and East Seventh Avenue in Columbus’ Weinland Park neighborhood. Police said the Mustang was traveling east on Seventh Avenue at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and struck the pedestrians. The vehicle then hit a parked car in a nearby Kroger parking lot before stopping.
Student dies at Wexner Medical Center
Sheth, a resident of Warren, Ohio, was taken in critical condition to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The second pedestrian was also hospitalized in critical condition.
A person who was inside the parked vehicle was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The crash closed part of North High Street while investigators examined the scene.
Driver faces OVI charge
Police said the Mustang’s driver remained at the scene and was taken into custody. Authorities filed a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence, commonly called OVI under Ohio law.
Investigators said alcohol, narcotics or both may have contributed to the crash. The driver’s identity had not been released, and toxicology testing remained pending. Additional charges could be considered as investigators review the evidence.
Sheth remembered as student-athlete
Sheth was studying neuroscience at Ohio State and graduated from John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Warren in 2023. School athletic records show that he participated in football and soccer.
He was also named a recipient of an Ohio High School Athletic Association and Northeast District Athletic Board Scholar-Athlete Scholarship. His former school community has shared tributes following his death.
The investigation remains active. Toxicology findings and the police reconstruction of the crash could influence whether prosecutors pursue additional charges against the driver.
