Livermore Named 2nd Safest Suburb In California, Ranks 37th Safest City In U.S.

Livermore has earned national recognition as one of the safest places to live, ranking 2nd among California suburbs and 37th nationwide in SmartAsset’s 2025 “America’s Safest Suburbs” report. The study analyzed a range of public safety indicators, including violent and property crime rates, drug overdose statistics, and traffic fatality numbers. Data was drawn from reliable national sources such as the FBI’s 2023 Uniform Crime Reporting Database, the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey, and public health data from the University of Wisconsin Public Health Institute’s 2025 County Health Rankings & Roadmap, which also measured excessive drinking rates among adults.

According to Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young, this achievement reflects the strong collaboration between the department and the community. He credited the city’s low crime rates and safe environment to the dedication, professionalism, and daily commitment of Livermore’s law enforcement team. In California, only Palo Alto ranked higher for safety, while Pacifica, Mountain View, Fullerton, and San Mateo closely followed Livermore in the top rankings. On the national level, Lehi, Utah; Bethesda, Maryland; and Great Falls, Virginia claimed the top three safest suburb spots in the country.

This recognition underscores Livermore’s reputation as a safe and welcoming community, reinforcing its appeal for families, professionals, and retirees seeking a secure place to live in the Bay Area. The city’s proactive policing strategies, community engagement efforts, and well-maintained public spaces contribute to its standing as not just a desirable destination, but also one of the most secure suburbs in the state and the nation.
