A Dallas family is pleading for justice and public help after 30-year-old Victor Rojas was killed in a suspected carjacking outside a gym. The fatal shooting occurred on March 3 near South Buckner Boulevard and Samuell Boulevard, at a QuikTrip gas station next to a Planet Fitness that Rojas regularly attended.
That night, Rojas left home to work out, a routine he kept most evenings. His family says it was the last time they heard from him. Police found Rojas’ body next to his truck at a gas pump. Investigators believe two suspects tried to carjack him as he was leaving the gym.
Dallas police arrested 20-year-old Alex Hernandez in April in connection with the killing, but he has since bonded out. A second suspect, 18-year-old Jose Salas Jr., remains at large. Authorities are actively searching for Salas and have requested public assistance. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to his arrest.
The victim’s family, choosing to stay anonymous due to safety concerns, shared their heartbreak and fears with Meadia. They believe Rojas was targeted in a random act of violence. "If they know him or know where he is at, speak up. It’s scary, I get that. It’s scary. Even for us," a family member said.
Police have not officially released a motive, but the family's account aligns with what they say they were told by investigators that the suspects were trying to steal Rojas' vehicle when he was shot. Authorities urge anyone with information about Jose Salas Jr.’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers immediately. The Rojas family continues to seek answers and closure, hoping the public can help bring the second suspect to justice.
