The deadly explosion at the Sigachi Chemical Industry unit in Pashamylaram, Telangana, has claimed at least 42 lives. Initially reported as 39, the death toll climbed as rescue operations continued into Tuesday. The explosion, believed to have been triggered by a chemical reaction, sent shockwaves through the plant, completely destroying the industrial shed. The blast’s force was so powerful that it hurled workers as far as 100 meters, leaving many trapped under the rubble.
Rescue teams, including those from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Telangana Fire Disaster Response, and HYDRAA, rushed to the scene. By the time Tuesday morning arrived, 31 bodies had been recovered from the debris, with more victims found later. Three additional victims died in hospital while receiving treatment.
According to local officials, around 90 workers were in the factory at the time of the explosion. Fire and rescue operations began immediately after the blast, but the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The devastation at the Sigachi chemical plant has left the community in shock, and authorities have promised continued efforts to provide support to the victims' families.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma expressed their condolences to the victims' families, and the governor has directed the necessary authorities to ensure ongoing assistance for the affected families. The incident has raised concerns about safety standards in chemical plants and industrial facilities.
