A tragic incident occurred in Delhi’s Jungpura area on Monday night when a 37-year-old woman, Sumati, was accidentally shot and killed by her son, Tarun, who was allegedly handling an illegal firearm at their home. The victim, a domestic help who supported her family, was struck in the face by a bullet from a country-made pistol while her son was reportedly showing it to her. The fatal shot led to her death on the spot.
The incident was discovered after a PCR call was received from Moolchand Hospital, informing the police that a woman with a gunshot wound had been brought in dead. Sumati, who is survived by her husband, a daily-wage gardener, and three children, including an 11-year-old daughter, became the unfortunate victim of an accidental shooting that has left the family devastated.
Following the shooting, police launched a brief pursuit and arrested 18-year-old Tarun, the victim’s son, who allegedly procured the illegal firearm from an individual in the Ashram area. During questioning, the accused led the authorities to a nearby drain where the weapon had been discarded after the incident. The firearm was recovered by the police, and forensic teams were called to gather evidence from the crime scene.
An FIR has been registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Police are continuing their investigation and are working to trace the person who supplied the illegal pistol to Tarun. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing as authorities aim to ensure justice for Sumati and her family.
