Vijay to Contest Two Seats as TVK Debuts in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026

Actor-turned-politician Vijay has officially announced candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking the debut of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Vijay himself will contest from two constituencies — Perambur and Trichy East — both currently held by the ruling DMK.

Addressing supporters, Vijay urged voters to give his party a chance, highlighting the party’s election symbol and calling for equal support to all TVK candidates. He emphasized that his candidates come from common backgrounds and represent a new kind of leadership focused on people’s welfare rather than power or influence.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 23 across all 234 constituencies. The contest is expected to be intense, with multiple fronts including the ruling DMK alliance, the AIADMK-BJP combine, and other regional parties, along with TVK making its first electoral entry.

Vijay also outlined key promises, including a drug-free Tamil Nadu, financial support for unemployed youth, and greater transparency in government recruitment. Several notable candidates have been fielded by TVK, including those contesting against top leaders in key constituencies, signaling the party’s aggressive approach in its debut election.
