Raghav Chadha sparked fresh political buzz after taking a pointed dig at his own party, Aam Aadmi Party, during a Rajya Sabha session. Highlighting the absence of senior leadership, Chadha remarked that neither the party’s leader nor the newly appointed deputy leader was present in the House, even as he himself attended despite recently being removed from the deputy leader position.
In his speech, Chadha subtly underscored the irony of the situation, drawing attention to internal developments within the party. His remarks came during a formal address where he also extended congratulations to Harivansh Narayan Singh on his re-election as Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
The controversy follows Chadha’s recent removal as AAP’s deputy leader in the Upper House, a role now held by Ashok Kumar Mittal, while Sanjay Singh continues as the party’s leader in the Rajya Sabha. Initially described as a routine organisational change, the move soon triggered speculation about internal differences within the party.
AAP leaders later accused Chadha of deviating from the party line and not being vocal on key issues, including major policy debates. They also criticised his approach in Parliament, alleging that he avoided direct criticism of the central government. In response, Chadha dismissed these claims, stating that his focus remains on raising public concerns rather than engaging in disruption.
The situation further escalated with changes to his security cover, as the Punjab government withdrew his Z-plus security, which was subsequently replaced with Z-category protection by the Centre. The developments point to growing friction within the party, making Chadha’s remarks in the Rajya Sabha even more significant in the current political landscape.
