Madras HC Dismisses Plea Against Vijay Over ₹12.6 Crore Loan Disclosure
On April 27, 2026, the Madras High Court dismissed a petition challenging Vijay’s ₹12.6 crore loan disclosure, with no specific time of judgment disclosed.

The Madras High Court on April 27, 2026, dismissed a petition seeking an inquiry into actor-turned-politician Vijay over his election affidavit, where he declared lending ₹12.60 crore to his wife. The court rejected the plea on the grounds that a similar petition had already been dismissed earlier, making the current request untenable.

Filed by a voter from the Perambur constituency, the petition questioned the validity of Vijay’s financial disclosures, especially in light of claims that his wife, Sangeetha Vijay, had filed for divorce. The petitioner argued that such developments cast doubt on the authenticity of the affidavit and raised concerns about transparency in the electoral process. He also pointed to an alleged ₹20 crore contribution to a private educational trust, claiming insufficient explanation was provided.

A bench led by Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arulmurugan observed that the issue had already been addressed in a previous case and therefore did not warrant reconsideration. The court emphasized judicial consistency and declined to reopen the matter, effectively closing the legal challenge.

Vijay’s political debut through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has intensified the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, turning them into a competitive three-way contest. His party is facing off against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led bloc.

Polling concluded recently with a strong voter turnout of 85.1 percent, reflecting heightened political engagement across the state. With results scheduled for May 4, 2026, alongside other states, Vijay’s entry into politics continues to reshape the electoral dynamics in Tamil Nadu.
