AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami’s carefully worded congratulatory message has triggered intense speculation over whether Vijay’s TVK has already secured enough support to form the next Tamil Nadu government.
Tamil Nadu’s post-election political drama took another dramatic turn on May 9, 2026, after AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami posted a cryptic message on social media congratulating the “party forming the government” in the state. Though he did not directly mention Vijay or Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the timing of the post immediately sparked massive political speculation because it came amid ongoing uncertainty over government formation in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Vijay-led TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the Assembly elections with 107 seats but remained short of the majority mark of 118. Congress later extended support to TVK, while CPI and CPI(M) also backed Vijay, stating that preventing President’s Rule and stopping indirect BJP influence were important reasons behind their decision. Political attention is now focused on the Thol Thirumavalavan-led Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), whose final decision is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether Vijay can comfortably cross the halfway mark.
EPS’s statement quickly intensified rumours about possible behind-the-scenes negotiations between opposition parties and TVK. Political observers believe the AIADMK leader’s wording may indicate growing confidence that Vijay has already secured the required numbers. Adding to the suspense, an AIADMK MP had earlier stated that “my leader will become CM,” leading to fresh theories about parallel political strategies being discussed during the ongoing deadlock.
The government formation process has now turned into a full-scale political thriller with reports of missing MLAs, late-night negotiations, bargaining over ministerial portfolios, and continuous political meetings. Vijay has already visited Raj Bhavan multiple times to stake claim before Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who is reportedly waiting for formal proof of majority support before inviting any party to form the government. With VCK yet to officially reveal its stand and smaller parties now holding the balance of power, the race for Fort St George remains highly tense and unpredictable.
