DK Shivakumar Named Karnataka CM
DK Shivakumar is set to become Karnataka’s new Chief Minister after the Congress Legislature Party elected him as its leader in Bengaluru.
Congress Picks DK Shivakumar
DK Shivakumar is set to take charge as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka after being elected as the Congress Legislature Party leader. The decision was taken at a CLP meeting held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru after Siddaramaiah stepped down from the post.
Siddaramaiah confirmed that he had resigned as Chief Minister and CLP leader, leaving the final decision on the next leader to the Congress high command. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accepted his resignation, and the Council of Ministers was dissolved.
Oath Ceremony On June 3
Shivakumar’s swearing-in ceremony will be held on June 3 at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan. Congress leader G C Chandrashekhar said the exact time of the oath-taking event will be announced later.
The Congress has decided to keep the ceremony simple. Plans to bring supporters to Bengaluru in thousands of buses were dropped due to concerns over fuel issues and traffic congestion.
Party Calls For Simple Event
Congress leaders have appealed to workers and supporters not to rush to the venue. The party wants the ceremony to reflect responsibility, service, and a smooth transition of leadership rather than a large political show. Shivakumar also met senior party leaders and Governor Gehlot ahead of the CLP meeting.
