Operation Slowdown Texas: Speeding Enforcement Campaign & Safety Tips

Operation Slowdown Targets Speeding Across Texas

Operation Slowdown is a statewide traffic enforcement campaign led by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and local law enforcement to reduce speeding-related crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities.

During the campaign, officers increase patrols and use radar and other speed-detection tools to identify drivers exceeding posted speed limits.

Why It Matters

Speeding is a leading cause of serious crashes in Texas. Driving too fast reduces reaction time and increases the severity of collisions, especially in heavy traffic, bad weather, construction zones, and school zones.

Penalties for Speeding

Drivers caught speeding may receive citations, fines, court costs, and higher insurance premiums. Fines can be increased in active work zones when workers are present.

Drive Safely

  • Follow posted speed limits.
  • Slow down for traffic, weather, and road conditions.
  • Maintain a safe following distance.
  • Be extra cautious in work and school zones.

TxDOT reminds drivers that arriving a few minutes earlier is never worth risking a serious crash. Operation Slowdown is designed to encourage safer driving and protect everyone on Texas roads.
