A Garner father faces an attempted murder charge and multiple felony child abuse counts after authorities said his 2-year-old son suffered life-threatening brain, eye and spinal injuries.
The charges against 44-year-old Kiran Netha Pasunuri were announced in Garner, North Carolina, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, according to the Garner Police Department and court documents.
Attempted murder charge follows severe toddler injuries
Pasunuri is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and two counts of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
Investigators allege that he intentionally caused the child’s injuries and delayed seeking medical treatment, leaving the boy without immediate care for an extended period.
Court filings citing medical records state that the toddler suffered a massive brain bleed, retinal hemorrhages and compression fractures involving multiple vertebrae. Surgeons removed part of the child’s skull during an emergency procedure to reduce pressure on his brain.
The child survived, but authorities have not released updated information about his medical condition.
Bond set at $200,000 in Wake County case
Pasunuri is being held at the Wake County Detention Center on a $200,000 secured bond. A judge ordered him to have no contact with the child if he is released.
He is expected to appear in court later in July 2026, although a specific hearing date was not provided. Investigators have not publicly identified a motive.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and the investigation remains active. The case will now proceed through the Wake County court system, where prosecutors must prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
