A major development unfolded in Telangana politics on Saturday as the Special Investigation Team completed its first round of questioning of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in connection with the phone tapping case. The SIT officials arrived at KCR’s residence in Nandi Nagar earlier in the afternoon and began the inquiry at approximately 3:00 pm. What initially appeared to be a routine examination extended far longer than expected, drawing widespread political and public attention.
The investigation reportedly continued uninterrupted for nearly four and a half hours, with SIT officials questioning KCR on various aspects related to the alleged phone tapping activities during his tenure. During the course of the inquiry, leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi raised objections, stating that questioning individuals above the age of 65 should not extend beyond 6:00 pm. Despite these objections, the investigation proceeded, and the SIT officials finally concluded their session at around 7:30 pm before leaving the premises. With this, the first phase of the probe involving KCR was formally completed, marking a crucial step in the high-profile case.
Following the departure of the SIT team, KCR held a closed-door meeting at his residence with senior party leaders including K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao, and Praveen Kumar. Sources indicated that KCR briefed them on the manner in which the investigation was conducted and the questions posed by the SIT officials. This meeting has added to the political buzz surrounding the case, with intense speculation over its implications for the BRS leadership.
According to sources familiar with the probe, the SIT recorded both audio and video statements given by KCR during the investigation. These recordings are expected to serve as key reference material as the inquiry progresses. Officials have indicated that further questioning and additional investigative steps may follow in the coming days, depending on the findings from this initial round. As the phone tapping case continues to unfold, political circles remain on edge, awaiting the next move in what is shaping up to be one of the most significant investigations in recent Telangana political history.
