Prithvi Shaw Leaves Mumbai Ranji Team with NOC

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has officially ended his association with the Mumbai Ranji team after being granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). The decision comes as Shaw seeks to rejuvenate his career with another state team ahead of the upcoming domestic cricket season.

Shaw, who made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2017, expressed his gratitude to the MCA for their support throughout his career. In a formal request submitted to the association, the 25-year-old stated his intent to pursue a new professional opportunity under a different State Association that he believes will aid his personal and athletic growth.

Confirming the development, MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap said, “Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Once considered India’s next big batting star, Shaw has struggled in recent years with form, fitness, and disciplinary matters. These issues led to his omission from the red-ball squad and, eventually, from the Mumbai Ranji side last season. His last appearance for Mumbai was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final against Madhya Pradesh, where his team clinched the title.

Although Shaw has continued to feature in white-ball cricket, criticism over his commitment and training ethic has persisted. Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer, after their Syed Mushtaq Ali victory, pointedly remarked that “work ethics” were crucial for players like Shaw and that professionalism must come from within.

While the identity of the state Shaw is set to join remains undisclosed, the move signals a fresh chapter for the player, who has represented India in five Tests and six ODIs. Whether this transition will reinvigorate his career or continue the pattern of underperformance remains to be seen, but the MCA’s formal farewell underlines the end of an era for one of Mumbai’s most talked-about cricketers. Shaw concluded his letter to the MCA by emphasizing that his decision was made with great thought and respect for the association that gave him his foundational cricketing platform.
