SRH secures first IPL 2026 win with dominant 65-run victory over KKR

Sunrisers Hyderabad opened their account in IPL 2026 with a commanding 65-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders after successfully defending the highest total of the season. Hyderabad posted 226 for 8, powered by aggressive top-order batting and a composed finish, before bowling out Kolkata for 161 in 16 overs.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provided early momentum, combining for 82 runs in just 5.4 overs. Head struck 46 off 21 deliveries, while Sharma added 48 at the same pace, setting a strong platform in the powerplay. Despite a brief middle-order slowdown triggered by disciplined bowling from Kolkata, Heinrich Klaasen stabilized the innings with a crucial 52 off 35 balls, helping Hyderabad add 51 runs in the final four overs.

Kolkata’s chase began with promise as Finn Allen attacked early, but wickets at key intervals halted progress. Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s quick 52 kept the team competitive, but his run-out proved decisive. Hyderabad capitalized on the shift in momentum, with Jaydev Unadkat and Eshan Malinga leading the bowling effort to dismantle the remaining lineup.

Earlier, Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for showing dissent after a contested dismissal. Despite that moment, his performance contributed significantly to Hyderabad’s strong start and eventual win, marking a turning point in their campaign.
