A historic mansion in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights neighborhood has sold in a private, off-market transaction for $56 million, according to public property records. The sale marks the city’s most expensive residential deal since a nearby property set a record in 2024, underscoring continued strength in the luxury housing segment.
The property, located at 2898 Vallejo Street, was sold by a revocable trust linked to Daniel Alegre, a technology and media executive. The buyer was identified in records as a limited liability company, reflecting a common structure for high-value real estate transactions in the United States.
Originally constructed in 1921, the Beaux Arts-style mansion spans approximately 15,000 square feet and occupies a prominent corner lot in Pacific Heights. The residence offers sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and Alcatraz, positioning it among the most desirable properties in the city’s high-end market.
Beyond its architectural significance, the home has a notable cultural history. It was featured as a filming location in the 1974 movie “The Towering Inferno” and was previously owned by a prominent local family associated with San Francisco’s historic Fisherman’s Wharf dining scene.
Public records indicate the sellers acquired the property in 2013 for approximately $11.7 million. Since then, the home has undergone substantial renovations, including updated interiors, the addition of an elevator, and the construction of an indoor swimming pool at the lower level.
The transaction reflects ongoing demand at the top tier of the San Francisco housing market, which has been supported in part by wealth generated through advancements in artificial intelligence and technology sectors. Market data shows a notable increase in high-value home sales compared to the previous year, even as broader housing conditions remain mixed.
This latest sale also exceeds a previous high-profile transaction in the same neighborhood in December 2025, further highlighting the resilience of luxury real estate in one of the nation’s most competitive markets.
