India entered Day 4 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya with athletes competing across several major disciplines as the contingent continued its search for a first gold medal of the Games. India had six medals at the end of Monday, but none of them were gold, putting added attention on Tuesday’s packed schedule.
The day featured Indian athletes in boxing, badminton, table tennis, shooting, kabaddi and women’s cricket. With several knockout rounds and medal opportunities on the calendar, India was hoping to strengthen its overall medal tally.
Sakshi Chaudhary Boxing Win Boosts India’s Medal Hopes
Boxer Sakshi Chaudhary delivered one of India’s strongest performances of the morning. Competing in the women’s 51kg first round, she defeated Philippines boxer Aira Cordero Villegas by a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Villegas had won a bronze medal in the light flyweight category at the Paris Olympics, making Sakshi’s victory an important result for the Indian boxing contingent. The convincing win helped her advance further in the competition and strengthened India’s hopes of a medal in women’s boxing.
India also faced disappointment in shooting. Parth Mane and Elavenil Valarivan reached the 10m air rifle mixed team final but finished fourth in the four-team medal round.
Karateka Chetan Bhatt also came close to the podium but missed out on bronze after losing to Chinese Taipei’s Meng-yu Chung on senshu in the men’s kumite 84kg bronze-medal contest.
India Badminton, Table Tennis and Shooting Teams in Action
India’s women’s badminton team faced a challenging quarter-final against Japan. The squad included PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Devika Sihag, Tanvi Sharma, Isharani Baruah, Treesa Jolly, Gayatri Gopichand, Kavipriya Selvam, Simran Singhi and Tanisha Crasto.
In table tennis, India’s women’s team of Sreeja Akula, Yashaswini Ghorpade, Diya Chitale, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Syndrela Das was involved in a close contest against Thailand, with the tie level at 1-1 during the early stages.
Indian shooters also continued their campaigns in the skeet competitions. Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill were competing in the men’s individual and team events, while Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan represented India in the women’s competitions.
The Indian men’s kabaddi team produced a dominant performance, defeating Korea 63-31 in its group-stage match.
Another major focus of Day 4 was women’s cricket, where India was scheduled to face Sri Lanka in the final. The match is a repeat of the recent Women’s Asia Cup final and gives India a major opportunity to secure its first gold medal of the Asian Games 2026.
With multiple events continuing across Aichi-Nagoya, India remains active across several medal disciplines as athletes look to convert strong performances into podium finishes.
