Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav met PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on November 6, 2026. The cricketer was accompanied by family members during a pre-Diwali visit, showing a personal exchange with the Prime Minister.

Among those present were Suryakumar's wife, Devisha Shetty, their infant daughter and relatives. The gathering included children named Ram and Saryu, whose presence later featured in Modi's social media message about the festive occasion.

A memorable part of the visit came when Saryu, Suryakumar's niece, sang a devotional song in Kannada. The Prime Minister listened to the young performer, and the moment appeared in a video shared afterward.

The Prime Minister's Office acknowledged the gathering as a warm interaction with the cricketer and his family. Videos of the visit focused on family moments rather than official cricket matters, highlighting the informal atmosphere.

Diwali Message Celebrates Culture and Traditions

After the meeting, Suryakumar posted a heartfelt Diwali message on X, describing his time with Narendra Modi as a blessed and heartwarming experience. He expressed gratitude and reflected on the cultural traditions and shared values that bring people together.

He also wished followers a happy and prosperous Diwali, placing the focus on the festival's spirit of connection. His message followed a visit in which family members, children and devotional music contributed to the celebratory atmosphere.

Modi separately shared a video from the gathering and referred to Ram and Saryu by name. He said their arrival during the Diwali season had made the surroundings more sacred and divine, drawing attention to the children's participation.

The meeting attracted interest by bringing together a well-known cricketer, his family and the Prime Minister during a major festival. Their public posts highlighted personal exchanges and festive greetings rather than announcing a new sporting initiative.

T20 World Cup Medal Recalls India's Success

The interaction also included a cricketing highlight. Suryakumar wore his gold medal from India's 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup triumph, and Modi was seen holding it. The moment recognised the team's achievement under Suryakumar's captaincy.

India's 2026 title followed its victory at the 2024 tournament, making it the first men's side to successfully defend the T20 World Cup. Suryakumar also led India to the 2025 T20 Asia Cup title in the United Arab Emirates.

The batter won the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year award in both 2022 and 2023. He topped the T20I batting rankings in October 2022 and achieved a career-high rating of 910 points in January 2023.

His international role has since changed. Following the 2026 World Cup, Suryakumar was omitted from the T20I squad for the Ireland and England tour, with Shreyas Iyer succeeding him as captain. The Diwali meeting nevertheless celebrated his cricketing contributions.
