The report highlighted San Jose’s strong performance across nearly every category used in the study. With one of the lowest violent crime rates nationally, the city recorded just 0.0053 violent crimes per capita, positioning it third lowest among all large cities. Property crime was also low, with 0.026 incidents per capita, placing the city fifth lowest in that category. Beyond crime, San Jose showed encouraging numbers in public health and transportation safety, reporting about seven traffic deaths per 100,000 residents and 17 drug overdose deaths per 100,000 residents. Approximately 17.8 percent of residents reported engaging in excessive drinking, a figure still below many comparable urban areas. These combined metrics helped San Jose outpace Los Angeles, which ranked second overall, and Fort Worth, Texas, which ranked third.
