Sourav Ganguly encourages Vaibhav after RR’s 1-run loss

In a touching moment following one of the most intense matches of IPL 2025, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly took time to meet Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year-old batting prodigy, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The occasion was the aftermath of RR’s heartbreaking 1-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, and Ganguly’s gesture brought both comfort and inspiration to the young player.

Despite the loss, and a modest performance from Vaibhav who was dismissed for just four runs Ganguly had words of motivation for the rising star. As per reports from Sangbad Pratidin, Ganguly met Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson and coach Rahul Dravid before catching up with Vaibhav. He reportedly examined the youngster’s bat and offered him a short but powerful pep talk. "I have seen your game. Keep playing the way you play fearless cricket. There is no need to change the game," Ganguly told Vaibhav, according to the report.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has already created ripples in this IPL season by becoming the youngest player to hit a century, has had an otherwise thrilling debut season. However, his performance against KKR reminded fans and critics alike that even the most promising talents face ups and downs. Ganguly’s encouragement not only reinforces the importance of staying grounded but also highlights the need for mentorship at every level of the sport.

The match itself was a rollercoaster. RR captain Riyan Parag played a sensational innings, scoring 95 off just 45 balls, which included eight sixes and six fours. Yet, despite being in a strong position to chase KKR’s target of 207, RR fell short by a single run.

Parag later accepted responsibility during the post-match presentation. "Probably a miscalculation from my side, I should have finished it," he said. He acknowledged that RR had the game in their hands but failed to capitalize in the last few overs. His dismissal in the 18th over was a turning point, with Shubham Dubey putting up a last-minute fight, only to fall short by one run despite some impressive boundary-hitting.

Reflecting further, Parag said, “I think we could have found better options in the last six overs. We should have finished this.” He also admitted that their bowling strategy could have been stronger, particularly in managing Andre Russell, who played a match-winning cameo of 57 off 25 balls, swinging the game back in KKR’s favor during the final stretch.

The entire episode from the match's dramatic finish to Ganguly's wise counsel has not only made headlines but also reinforced the emotional depth of the sport. Cricket, while a game of numbers, is equally a game of character, where veterans like Ganguly continue to guide the next generation of cricketers with humility and experience.

As the IPL 2025 season continues, fans will undoubtedly keep their eyes on Vaibhav Suryavanshi, not only for his remarkable talent but also to see how he responds to both the praise and the pressure. With mentors like Ganguly offering guidance, Indian cricket seems to be in promising hands.
